Reading is a great hobby and it's good for the brain

In today's world, we are fortunate to have many different options to learn something new or improve our skills for an existing hobby.

Having a hobby can enrich your life and bring you tremendous joy. If retired it gives you something to do in your new found spare time. If stress from life's situations is overwhelming, it can be a great distraction.

If you don't have a hobby, there are entire websites devoted to hobbies and interest (e.g. Blueprint.com) but I find the best way is to try something new. The world is full of exciting activities that you can explore, try, and adopt as your own.

Once you find something you genuinely enjoy, you will become hooked.

Hobbies are good for the soul. Listed below are many reasons why all of us should have at least one hobby:

  • People who have hobbies are more interesting because that have experiences and stories to share. They also gain specialize knowledge that can monetize, if you choose too.
  • Engaging in a hobby relieves stress from everyday life. Hobbies can be relaxing and fulfilling especially when not associated with chores or work.
  • Learning a new hobby can help with patience. Learning something new such an instrument takes time to learn and requires practice and patience to build skills.
  • Some hobbies require joining a club or a league. Hobbies can be an excellent way to meet new people or reengage with old friends that have the same interest.
  • If you get hooked and become passionate about your new found hobby, as you improve your confidence and self-esteem will grow as well.
  • Hobbies give you something to do when you find you need to fill extra time. They keep you from getting bored.
  • Hobbies help you build new skills, challenge you and increase your knowledge.
  • And lastly, hobbies can prevent you from wasting time or cultivating negative and bad habits.

Are you wondering what my hobbies are? Well, I have a few old ones and a few new ones.

  1. Reading - I have loved to read since I was a young child. I love many genre's. Fiction, non-fiction, health&wellness, psychological thrillers and I'm enjoying trying new genre's. Currently, I'm reading "Circe" a Greek mythological fiction. I try to read 2 books a month, but sometimes I read more.
  2. Fitness, Health & Wellness - Even though this is something that is recommended for good health, no one has to tell me to work out. I enjoy challenging my body. I believe in a healthy lifestyle and I love helping others get healthy too. I recently decided to become a license Health Coach.
  3. Drawing
  4. Learning Piano
