Living with Crohn's or any chronic illness can be a challenge to manage, but there is new research that suggests meditation and yoga can have tremendous benefits for the mind, the body, and digestive disease management. As an individual with Crohn's finding the right treatment plan can be difficult since most individuals experience very different symptoms.
Yoga, The Ancient Practice
Yoga, the ancient practice that originated in India, was my solution. Managing stress was key and since integrating meditation, breathing, and relaxing posing into my daily routine, I have seen a significant reduction in my symptoms.
Researchers continue to conduct studies that include breathing, visualization, Yoga, and mindfulness techniques to help manage inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) as a way to relieve symptoms and improve your overall quality of life.
While Yoga has exploded in popularity in the West, the technique can still be challenging for the beginner. I would suggest starting with a few simple poses like Side stretches, Side Twists, and Knee-to-chest. And don't forget to breath.
Benefits of Yoga
The benefits of Yoga and meditation for chronic diseases has long been known, but ignored by traditional medicine. It's time we embrace holistic approaches to support Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) to complement other therapies.
